Request for information

The McLean County Sheriff’s department is requesting any information regarding a recent finding. A few weeks back a local fisherman was fishing off of the Pavilion dock when they hooked a bone that appeared to be human. It was turned into authorities and confirmed to be a human femur. Today, June 12, the location where the fisherman reported snagging the bone was roped off for their dive team to look for additional evidence. It was then determined, based on the composition of our lake bed and the fact there was no additional evidence found in the surrounding area, that it may have been misplaced from its original spot this spring, which left it exposed and on top of the lake bed.

We are aware that there are many animal/cattle bones in the lake. Cattle bones are typically much thicker than a human bone. That said, if anyone happened to hook a bone this spring or find it in the surrounding area and mistake it for an animal bone, they are asking that you reach out Detective Nielsen at 701-301-3626 with the McLean County Sheriff’s department to provide any information as to where this bone was originally found to search for additional evidence in this case.
